Principle Car Air Conditioning System and how it Works

An automobile air conditioning system consists of air circulation, refrigeration system, distribution system and control system. The function of refrigeration system is to cool down the air. Principle of Car Air Conditioning System

In a vehicle, a complete air conditioning system consists of compressor, evaporator, receiver-dehydrator, condenser, and connecting lines which are, orifice tube expansion valve, thermal sensor, evaporator pressure regulator valve, positive operating absolute valve, high pressure cutoff switch, throttling valve and cycling compressor switch. All these equipments plays important role during the cooling process. Furthermore, air conditioning system uses refrigerant like R134a but in old days gas like freon 12 is used. How Car Air Conditioning System Works

Car air conditioning system works just as other air conditioning system. In automobile air conditioning system, The compressor which is driven by the engine compressed refrigerant vapour from the evaporator. The variable displacement AC compressor is used sometimes to match compressor capacity to varying cooling requirement. The pressure and temperature of refrigerant increases in the compressor which enables the convention into vapour form and then released the coolness inside the vehicle. In the condenser the refrigerant releases heat and convert them to liquid form. The ram air is not sufficient most time to cool down the refrigerant that is why an electric driven fan is used for the cooling. The cooled refrigerant is allowed to pass in high pressure through an expansion valve mounted at the inlet side of the evaporator. The primary function of the expansion valve is to allows the refrigerant liquid to spread to low pressure in the evaporator. These process allows the refrigerant to evaporate and same time cools the evaporator. Temperature tube signals is a sensing device membrane in the expansion valve which changes orifice size at a certain time depending upon the refrigerant temperature at the evaporator outlet. This also help in achieving temperature control.
